Well, I'm just so stinkin' proud of myself that I have to tell you guys. After 3.5 months of living in Japan, I just--for the first time--managed to write my name in Japanese katakana characters. I CAN WRITE MY NAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There are many times in this experience that I really feel like I am a kindergartener. I play chase all the time at lunch recess (The kids always make me be "It" [I'm pouting -- can't you tell!]) . I play little kids games all day in the lessons. I'm normally exempted from adult conversations (I can't understand them, so they just ship me off to play with the kids). I drink milk with my school lunch on a tray. I ride around on a bicycle. And I am basically illiterate. I can't read a bloomin' thing... I can't even read my own mail or the buttons on my microwave!
But, just like with kindergarteners, it's all about the baby steps... those small little victories. : ) So I can write my name now. Go me. : )
Hoping you are having little victories of your own,
: ) Jennifer
